Weekly News: Ford saves Bamberg / Ulm silences Bayern run / Ensminger grabs 4,000th rebound
Ford saves Bamberg at MBC
Just two days after getting beaten badly by ALBA BERLIN and watching their rivals collect the first Euroleague Top 16 victory by a German club, Brose Baskets Bamberg must thank Sharrod Ford for saving them in an ugly 58-56 win at Mitteldeutscher BC. The power forward came off the bench for 20 points and 14 rebounds in 23 minutes as one of the few players who could shoot at all Bamberg shooting just 31 percent from the field for the game.
Alpha males: Ulm silences Bayerns run
Bayern Munich came into their nationally televised showdown at ratiopharm ulm with a seven-game winning streak. But Ulm sent Bayern back to Munich with their tails between their legs after an 83-75 victory. With the teams sharing second place coming into the game, Ulm showed Munich who owns western Bavaria by out-rebounding Bayern 43-36 and committing just 9 turnovers also winning without Dane Watts. Reigning MVP John Bryant also dominated the game over Munich big man Jared Homan with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists while Homan was held scoreless with 5 rebounds. Ulms victory came three weeks after they had lost a thriller 80-78 at Bayern. Munich came into the contest having won their last seven games by an average of 18.1 points. Now Bayern head coach Svetislav Pesic has to go back to work in building back up his team.
Statscenter: Ensminger reaches 4,000 rebounds in Beko BBL
Chris Ensminger knows rebounding. The 39-year-old is spending his 14th season grabbing rebounds in the Beko BBL and has been as efficient as ever. Against Eisbären Bremerhaven, the Cincinnati native and former Valparaiso college star collected 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. One of those rebounds was the 4,000th off his Beko BBL career which started with MBC in 1999 and also saw stops at Bamberg (2001-08), Paderborn (2008-09) and since 2009 in Bonn. His top game mark of 22 rebounds came for MBC against Ulm on March 31, 2001. Ensminger has played in 466 Beko BBL games and collected 72 double-doubles during that time.
Statline of the week: Outstanding Ovcina not enough for Giessen
Elvir Ovcina had an outstanding game for LTi GIESSEN 46ers but it was not enough for the last-placed team in the league in an 83-69 loss at ALBA BERLIN. Ovcina collected 19 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals for an efficiency rating of 28. It could have been more but Ovcina made just 1-6 from long range for the contestant at the three-point shootout at the recent ALLSTAR Day festivities.
Going back to the Beko BBL ALLSTAR Day
Of course with all the costumes, a lot of great dunks (watch them all right here) and Jus Fly from team flight brothers as the winner, the Beko BBL dunking contest was the best of all time, but maybe the show from the Lords of Gravity impressed the fans even more. What do you think?:

Buckman replaces Gomes, Braunschweig bring in Barton
Artland Dragons and Ryan Gomes have parted ways with the Dragons replacing the former NBA player with former Beko BBL big man Bradley Buckman, who signed a deal until the end of the season. New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig meanwhile went out and added Czech international and former Barcelona forward Lubos Barton. The 32-year-old Barton played from 2002 to 2005 in Italy and 2005 to 2012 in Spain, winning the 2010 Euroleague title with Barcelona.
