Telekom Baskets Bonn locked up a berth in the Play-Ins and stayed within striking distance of the direct playoffs spots with a convincing 112-89 victory at home over ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES. Brian Fobbs scored 23 points and Harald Frey picked up a double-double of 19 points and 11 assists as Bonn improved to 18-12 with five straight wins at the Telekom Dome. Rostock could not open some breathing room in their battle against relegation with a fourth loss in the last five games for an 8-22 record. Tyler Nelson and Derrick Alston both scored 22 points in the loss.
Game Summary: Bonn jumped ahead 10-0 as the guests needed nearly 3 minutes to score. Four triples from Bonn pushed the lead out to 20-9 only to have Rostock answer and get the gap down to 25-24 and trailed just 27-24 after 10 minutes. Bonn used a 10-3 run to go ahead 40-31 and then an 11-2 surge opened the advantage to 53-39. And Bonn led 58-44 at the break.
Bonn did not let up as the cushion grew to 67-51. Rostock scored the next six points to make it a 10-point game but would not get closer the rest of the quarter and were down 84-67 after 30 minutes. Rostock scored the first five points of the final frame to pull within 12 points. The gap was still 12 points after a Tyler Nelson three-pointer to bring the guests within 95-83. Bonn drained 4 three-pointers as they finished the game on a 17-6 surge to end any doubts.
Numbers Please: Bonn shot a blistering 60.6 percent from the field including 58.3 percent from long range and committed only 11 turnovers. Bonn also allowed only 3 Rostock offensive rebounds and won the second chance points statistic 13-4.
Player of the Game: Brian Fobbs was Bonn's leading scorer with 23 points but Harald Frey was the conductor of the offensive show with 19 points to go with 11 assists and just 1 turnover while also grabbing 3 steals.
The Germans: Sam Griesel scored 16 points - one point off his career high - and added 2 rebounds and 2 assists, and Till Pape contributed 6 points and 2 rebounds. Rostock got 11 points and 2 rebounds from Sid-Marlon Theis and Till Gloger had 7 points and 2 rebounds.
Also Newsworthy: Bonn set a new season-high in scoring with 112 points. It was the eighth time Roel Moors' team scored triple digits in the league. Their previous best was 108 points, coming twice: in a 108-94 win over Veolia Towers Hamburg in Round 12 and a 108-93 victory against EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Round 15.
