JobStairs GIESSEN 46ers put on an offensive show as they rolled to a 100-81 home victory over SYNTAINICS MBC to snap a three-game losing streak. Kendale McCullum scored 19 points to pace five players in double figures for Giessen, who moved to 2-3 while MBC had their three-game winning streak end and are now 3-2.
Game summary and turning point: A week after Giessen lost in overtime at FC Bayern Munich by the final score of 71-64, Pete Strobl's men were hitting on all cylinders offensively right away, taking a 29-17 lead after 10 minutes. Giessen didn't stop scoring in the second frame and did not let MBC get closer, leading 57-41 at the break. Just to compare ... Giessen and Bayern were even at 56-56 after regulation last weekend. The hosts' offense slowed slightly but Giessen's defense also played better than the second quarter and the cushion was 77-58 after 30 minutes. And Giessen finished the game strong, never really letting MBC threaten the win.
Numbers please: Giessen shot a blistering 76.1 percent on 2-pointers and 63.1 percent for the game while MBC were held to 46.9 percent from the floor, including 28.6 percent on three-pointers.
Player of the Game: Kendale McCullum not only led Giessen in scoring with 19 points but he also collected 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
The Germans: John Bryant totalled 11 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist for Giessen, who also had 20-year-old Maxi Begue start the game and pick up 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in 12 minutes of action. The top German for MBC was Sergio Kerusch with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Also newsworthy: MBC's Jamel Morris led all scorers with 20 points and Goran Huskic collected 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss.
Beyond the sidelines: There were 1,753 spectators in the Sporthalle Gießen-Ost to see the home side snap their losing streak.
