Paulding to retire after season - after 15 years with Oldenburg

The wave of retirements in the easyCredit BBL continues with one of the league’s biggest names Rickey Paulding announcing he will call it quits after the season. The 38-year-old Paulding made the announcement in an Oldenburg video, saying: “It’s been a great journey, but it’s time to move on.” Paulding will have played 15 seasons with Oldenburg - where he has meant so much to the club that they playfully nicknamed it “Pauldingburg”. He helped the club to their only league title in 2009 and the German Cup crown in 2015 and is the leading scorer in league history since the start of data collection in 1998. Alex King and Per Günther have already said the 2021-22 season will be their last ones before hanging up their sneakers, and Bryce Taylor retired from the game this week as well.

Chemnitz fairy tale continues, bounce Ulm for first cup victory

NINERS Chemnitz’s fairy tale start to the season continued as they bounced ratiopharm ulm from the Round of 16 of the MagentaSport BBL Pokal German Cup with an 87-85 victory at home. After beating EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Hamburg Towers in the league, Chemnitz now have their first ever cup victory and a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Ulm struggled shooting the ball as they hit just 39.1 percent from the field - failing to take advantage of 17 offensive rebounds - and Chemnitz hit 50.9 percent of their shots. Berlin were just a bit more effective in the extra period to advance. Berlin crashed the glass hard to win the rebound battle 50- 35 which ended up being needed as the hosts turned the ball over 18 times and forced only seven Bonn turnovers.
