MLP Academics Heidelberg showed why they are the best road team in the league as they rolled past BG Göttingen 95-73 with the hosts still looking for their first win. Heidelberg blew the game open with a 15-2 start to the fourth quarter in improving to 5-3 in the league with a 4-1 mark away from home. Ryan Mikesell was dominant for the guests with 30 points while Michael Weathers and Alex Barcello both had 13 points. Göttingen, who had won four of the last six games against Heidelberg, fell to 0-6 despite Deion Hammond scoring 14 points.
Game Summary: Heidelberg used the three-pointer to take the lead with three triples for an 11-7 lead. The first quarter was truly a back and forth affair with nine lead changes - Ryan Mikesell scoring 10 points and Collin Welp with five points as Heidelberg led 20-17. And the guests led 23-20 after 10 minutes. Paul Zipser scored 5 points as Heidelberg opened the second quarter with the first 7 points for the first double digit lead 30-20. Zach Ensminger and Deion Hammond both hit triples as Göttingen closed the gap to 35-32. A Hammond three-point play trimmed the deficit to 39-37, and Heidelberg’s lead at the break was 41-37.
Heidelberg opened the second half with the first four points and the lead grew back to eight points. Jimmy Boeheim tallied six points in helping Göttingen punch back with a 10-2 run to tie the game 47-47. Heidelberg responded with the next five points to start a 15-4 surge for a 62-51 advantage. Göttingen trailed 62-55 after 30 minutes. Mikesell converted a three-point play among his 10 points as Heidelberg pulled away with a 15-2 run for a 77-57 lead with 6 minutes to play. Göttingen did not get closer than than 14 points the rest of the way.
Numbers Please: Heidelberg shot 51 percent for the game including 62 percent on two-pointers while holding Göttingen to just 34 percent from the floor and 21 percent from long range. Heidelberg also came up with 6 blocked shots.
Player of the Game: Ryan Mikesell was Heidelberg's top scorer with 30 points on 12 of 17 shooting while also added 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Mikesell also buried 2 of 4 threes after connecting on just 1 of 16 from long range in the last four league games.

The Germans: Mateo Seric collected 8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals for Heidelberg while Paul Zipser scored all 7 of his points in the first half - 2 points off his season high. At the other end, Collin Welp came off the bench for 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals while Janis Jünemann scored his first points of the season as the 19-year-old finished with a career high 7 points and 2 rebounds.
Also Newsworthy Part 1: The Göttingen duo of Tra Holder and Kostja Mushidi came into the game averaging a combined 21.3 points. Holder made 1 of 8 field goal attempts and scored 7 points while Mushidi went 0 of 8 from the field with 2 of 2 free throws for 2 points - one week after scoring a career high 24 points. All told, the Göttingen starters combined for only 29 points.
Also Newsworthy Part 2: This game was Göttingen's first home since October 11 - when they actually beat FIT/One Würzburg Baskets in the Round of 16 of the German BBL Cup. The last home game in the league for Olivier Foucart's team was October 6 versus FC Bayern Munich.
What's Up Next: Göttingen next week head to ratiopharm ulm to play the league leaders on Sunday November 17. Heidelberg return home and will face Veolia Towers Hamburg on Friday November 15.
