ALBA BERLIN players won two MVP trophies at ALLSTAR Day in Göttingen as Peyton Siva earned top billing in Team International’s win in the ALLSTAR Game while Hendrik Drescher received the award in the North’s win in the NBBL ALLSTAR Game. Also at the ALLSTAR festivities, Maodo Lo won the three-point contest and Jamar Abrams was crowned the top dunker.

Berlin guard Siva grabs MVP as Team International win ALLSTAR Game

Team International once again got the best of Team National, winning an ALLSTAR Game full of spectacular highlights 145-132 with ALBA BERLIN’s guard Peyton Siva grabbing MVP honors in the game in Göttingen. The contest was tied 104-104 after three quarters before Team International pulled away in the fourth quarter for a comfortable win. Siva collected 23 points and five assists while FC Bayern Munich’s Devin Booker had 22 points and Scott Eatherton of Basketball Löwen Braunschweig and ratiopharm ulm’s Trey Lewis both hit for 16 points for Team International. Joshiko Saibou of Berlin paced Team National with 20 points and Ulm’s Ismet Akpinar scored 16 points in the loss.

Bamberg ace Lo reigns over field to win Three-point contest

Brose Bamberg point guard Maodo Lo proved to be the class of the three-point shooting contest. The German international scored 17 points in the final round, edging past Thomas Walkup of MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg, who had 16 points and ALBA BERLIN’s Peyton Siva, who finished with 15. The 2016 three-point king Per Günther of ratiopharm ulm, Telekom Baskets Bonn’s Josh Mayo and challenger Evans Rapieque were eliminated in the first round.

High-flying Abrams wins dunk contest

GIESSEN 46ers high flyer Jamar Abrams won the 2018 Telekom Sport Dunking Contest. Abrams won the title in dethroning last year’s winner Brian Butler from ProB side scanplus Baskets Elchingen. Abrams and Butler eliminated Telekom Baskets Bonn’s Julian Gamble to reach the final.

Gamble showcases humor, makes statement at ALLSTAR Day

Julian Gamble of Telekom Baskets Bonn definitely showcased his humor at the ALLSTAR Day in Göttingen while also making a statement in the dunk contest. Gamble first did his best to get into the ALLSTAR Game for Team International.

Gamble then did his best to win the Telekom Sport Dunking Contest with a dunk over a double of the US President Donald Trump.

Berlin center Drescher wins MVP in North’s win of NBBL ALLSTAR Game

The North claimed victory in the U19 NBBL ALLSTAR Game with ALBA BERLIN’s Hendrik Drescher leading the way as MVP in an 88-79 win over the South. The Berlin center collected 22 points and six rebounds while Danielius Lavrinovicius of YOUNG DRAGONs picked up 19 points and eight rebounds for the North, which improved their all-time mark against the South to 3-8 in the ALLSTAR Game. The North built a 15-point lead early in the second quarter 30-15 and then remained in control. The South - paced by 19 points from Bruno Vrcic of FC Bayern Munich and 14 points and six rebounds from Fynn Fischer of IBAM, cut the gap to five points midway through the fourth quarter. But Drescher and Lavrinovicius scored 11 points in an 11-2 run to decide the game.

Bayreuth GM Galewski will leave to join Cybex company

medi bayreuth will be losing their general manager in about six weeks as Philipp Galewski has decided to leave the Bundesliga club and will switch to the company Cybex. The 31-year-old Galewski has been with the club since the start of the 2014-15 season, when they were on the brink of relegation. Three years later, he has helped turn Bayreuth into a legitimate challenger in the easyCredit BBL, snapping a 21-year playoff drought while also qualifying for the Basketball Champions League. He will leave the club at the end of February and Bayreuth are looking for a replacement.

Trinchieri out indefinitely for shoulder surgery

Brose Bamberg will be without their head coach Andrea Trinchieri for an indefinite period as the playcaller will be undergoing shoulder surgery. The pain in the Italian’s shoulder has gotten worse and worse and he will have a procedure on Tuesday, January 16 and the club did not say how long he will be out. Trinchieri’s assistant coach Ilias Kantzouris will fill in until his return.

MBC part ways with Liyanage, reportedly looking for a new center

Mitteldeutscher BC have parted ways with wing player Marc Liyanage to make room for a new center, which reportedly could be announced in the coming days. The local Mitteldeutsche Zeitung daily reported the club might be signing 31-year-old German center Jannik Freese, who is currently without a team. MBC could also be looking for a center since big man Djordje Pantelic could be forced to miss time due to chronic intestinal problems.
