Bayern take over fourth quarter to beat Berlin

FC Bayern Munich used a huge fourth quarter to pick up a big road victory by knocking off ALBA BERLIN 85-75. Berlin led by 11 points mid-way through the third quarter but Bayern responded with a 29-14 final period for their eighth straight victory to move to 28-2. Bayern were out-rebounded 35-27 but shot 56 percent from the field and held Berlin to just 44 percent including 22 percent from long range. Danilo Barthel collected 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, Derrick Williams had 15 points and 5 rebounds, Nihad Djedovic picked up 14 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists and Stefan Jovic chipped in 5 points, 2 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals for Bayern. Berlin turned the ball over 18 times while Landry Nnoko was leading scorer with 15 points, Luke Sikma had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals and Peyton Siva added 12 points but 1 assist and 6 turnovers. Berlin have dropped two straight and fell to 22-7 in third place.

Rubit saves Bamberg with 18-point fourth quarter vs Braunschweig

Augustine Rubit scored 18 of his 29 points in a 21-4 fourth quarter run to give Brose Bamberg a 93-88 home victory over Basketball Löwen Braunschweig. Bamberg lost a 14 point lead from the second quarter and trailed 77-70 before Rubit took the hosts on his back in the 4-minute run. Bamberg turned it over just 7 times and out-rebounded Braunschweig 40-29 including 14 offensive rebounds in snapping a two-game losing streak to move to 20-10. Cliff Alexander picked up 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, Bryce Taylor had 12 points and his 500th assist in the Bundesliga and Tyrese Rice chipped in 11 points and 7 assists for the winners, who had Stefan Weissenböck on the bench as head coach Federico Perego was serving a one-game suspension. Braunschweig, who had head coach Frank Menz back on the bench after a six-week break, saw Scott Eatherton collect 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block and DeAndre Lansdowne had 15 points, 3 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals, but they were not enough in snapping a two-game winning streak to fall into a three-way tie at 15-15 in eighth place.

Andersons late game-winner helps Bayreuth snap Berlin win streak

Kyan Anderson gave medi bayreuth their first and only lead with 2.2 seconds left in an 80-79 home victory over ALBA BERLIN in a Round 17 make-up game. The guests were up by 15 points in the first quarter and the gap was still 12 points late in the third period. But Anderson hit the game-winner as he collected 17 points and 5 assists off the bench while Adonis Thomas added 13 points in the win, which was Bayreuth’s second straight to move to 14-15. Rokas Giedraitis scored 16 points, Luke Sikma had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals and Peyton Siva added 10 points and 11 assists for Berlin, who were without Martin Hermannsson, Derrick Walton and Niels Giffey and saw their seven-game winning streak snapped for a 22-6 mark.

Oldenburg stifle Ulm, lock up home court advantage in playoffs

EWE Baskets Oldenburg stifled ratiopharm ulm’s offense to the tune of an 82-69 road victory to lock up home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Ulm led by 13 points in the second quarter but Oldenburg took over the game with a 31-11 third period in holding Ulm to 38 percent shooting, including 2-of-17 or 12 percent from long range. Will Cummings led the way with 25 points while Frantz Massenat scored 16 points and Rasid Mahalbasic had 5 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals as Oldenburg’s winning streak reached four games for a 25-5 record. Ulm got 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists from Patrick Miller but it was not enough in seeing a four-game winning streak snapped to fall to 17-13 in sixth place.

Günther plays 400th Bundesliga game for Ulm

ratiopharm ulm’s home loss spoiled a historic game for Per Günther as the 31-year-old Ulm point guard played in his 400th game in Germany’s top flight. He picked up 3 points in 6:35 minutes.

Hulls stays with Würzburg for two more seasons

s.Oliver Würzburg locked up long-term a major part of their success this season as Jordan Hulls signed a two-year extension to stay with the team until 2021. The 29-year-old Hulls joined the club in the off-season and has connected on 48 percent of his three-pointers in the easyCredit BBL and FIBA Europe Cup.

Vechta give up big lead, beat Würzburg on road

RASTA Vechta wasted a 22-point lead but managed to knock off s.Oliver Würzburg 92-85 on the road to remain in position to lock up home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Vechta were up by 22 points late in the second quarter but Würzburg put together a 29-17 third period and took the lead in the fourth. But Austin Hollins nailed two big three-pointers in the final 3 minutes as Vechta won their fourth straight for a 22-8 record. Hollins ended with 21 points while Clint Chapman had 11 points and 7 rebounds and Robin Christen chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Würzburg shot under 45 percent from the field and just 10-of-17 from the free throw line for 59 percent in dropping their third straight to fall into a three-way tie at 15-15 in ninth place. Skyler Bowlin did pick up 25 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals in the loss while Devin Oliver had 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists and Xavier Cooks added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

Würzburg drop first game of FIBA Europe Cup Finals by 5 points

s.Oliver Würzburg still have solid chances of winning the FIBA Europe Cup title after they lost the first leg on the road 89-84 against Dinamo Sassari. Cameron Wells scored 22 points to go with 6 assists, Xavier Cooks had 19 points, Devin Oliver 17 points and 8 rebounds and Skyler Bowlin added 5 points, 12 assists and 4 steals in the loss. The decisive Game 2 will be on May 1 in Würzburg with the winner being whichever team scores more points over the two games.

 

Ludwigsburg stay in race for playoffs with win at Crailsheim

MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg picked up their third straight victory to remain in the race for the playoffs with a 94-85 win at HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim. Ludwigsburg used a 10-2 late third quarter run to take over the game as Marcos Knight led the way with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block while Jordon Crawford had 20 points and Lamont Jones scored 19 points. Ludwigsburg are in a three-way tie at 15-15 in 10th place. Crailsheim have dropped five straight to fall to 7-23 in 17th place. Ben Madgen scored 18 points, Dewayne Russell picked up 14 points, 2 rebounds and 8 assists and Konrad Wysocki had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

Frankfurt hold Bonn to 60 points in road win

FRAPORT SKYLINERS held Telekom Baskets Bonn in check in picking up a 71-60 road victory in the so-called “Cookie Game”. Frankfurt gave up just 9 points in the second quarter and then pulled away in the fourth. Frankfurt hit only 20 percent from three-point range but turned the ball over just 10 times and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds while Tyler Larson picked up 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, Quantez Robertson collected 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block, Jason Clark scored 15 points and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block. Frankfurt have won three of four and now are 13-17 in 13th place. Charles Jackson finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block for Bonn, who shot under 40 percent including 4-of-15 (27 percent) from three-point range. Bonn have now lost three straight to fall to 15-14 in seventh place.

Giessen win second straight, keep Jena reeling

GIESSEN 46ers stayed close to the playoffs race with their second straight win with an 89-83 home victory over Science City Jena, who are still looking to end their losing skid. The game was close for the first three quarters until Giessen built a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter. Jena pulled to within 83-80 before Jared Jordan hit a big three-pointer and two free throws to move Giessen to 13-17 in 12th place. Five Giessen players scored in double figures including Jordan with 13 points, 11 assists and 2 steals off the bench and John Bryant with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Last placed Jena were held to under 42 percent from the field in losing their 11th straight for a 5-25 record despite Ronald Roberts picking up 15 points and 7 rebounds and Julius Jenkins’ 13 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Landis leaves Giessen for personal reasons

GIESSEN 46ers’ fight for the playoffs took a hit as Max Landis decided to leave the club with immediate effect for personal reasons to return to the United States. Landis’ final game for Giessen came against BG Göttingen as he picked up 9 points.

MBC roll past Bayreuth as Warren scores 30

Mitteldeutscher BC snapped a two-game losing streak by knocking off medi bayreuth 108-90 victory at home. MBC ran out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and were never really challenged in the second half in moving to 8-22 in 15th place. Andrew Warren nailed 5 three-pointers in scoring 30 points while Tremmell Darden finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks and Jovan Novak had 19 points, 4 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals for MBC, who turned it over just 8 times while shooting 62 percent from the field and 26-of-28 (93 percent) from the free throw line. Bayreuth shot just 45 percent from the field in seeing their two-game win streak end to fall to 14-16 in 11th place despite Eric Mika picking up 16 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists and De’Mon Brooks’ 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Bremerhaven beat Göttingen in OT for fourth home win in a row

Eisbären Bremerhaven wasted a 22-point lead but managed to fend off BG Göttingen with a 94-88 home victory in overtime. Bremerhaven led 30-12 after 10 minutes and by 22 points early in the second quarter and the lead was still 14 points in the third quarter before Göttingen went on a 14-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to take the lead. Mihaljo Andric made a free throw with 18 seconds left to force overtime, where the hosts executed better. Bremerhaven survived 21 turnovers by shooting 50 percent from the field and holding Göttingen to 44 percent. Chris Warren finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, Elston Turner had 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Armani Moore and Fabian Bleck both had 12 points as Bremerhaven have won third of the last five games and their fourth straight at home for a 7-23 record in 16th place. Michael Stockton paced Göttingen with 26 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and Andric and Derek Willis both scored 17 points. But Göttingen have now lost four straight and are 8-22 in 14th place.

Augustine Rubit takes Player of the Week honors this week for his great showing against Basketball Löwen Braunschweig as he picked up 29 points on 10-of-14 from the field and 7-of-7 free throws, 9 rebounds and 6 fouls drawn for an efficiency of 32.

DiLeo played a big role in Vechta’s win over s.Oliver Würzburg as he picked up 9 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Lockhart is on the list again this week with a strong showing against Eisbären Bremerhaven with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.

Philipp Herkenhoff, 19, SF, RASTA Vechta

Herkenhoff celebrated putting his name in the NBA Draft by scoring 9 points on 3-of-7 shots, including 3-of-3 three-pointers, to go with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 turnover in 14:40 minutes against s.Oliver Würzburg.

Bjarne Kraushaar, 19, PG, GIESSEN 46ers

Kraushaar started against Science City Jena and played 8:08 minutes, finishing with 2 points on 1-of-3 shots, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 turnover.

Louis Olinde played a good role in Brose Bamberg’s win over Basketball Löwen Braunschweig as the 21-year-old started and played 18:58 minutes, picking up 2 points on 1-of-3 shots, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block and 0 turnovers.

Five Germans hopeful to be picked in NBA Draft

Five Germans have their names in the NBA Draft for June 20. The five players in alphabetical order are: Philipp Herkenhoff of RASTA Vechta, Makai Mason of Baylor, Joshua Obiese of s.Oliver Würzburg, Louis Olinde of Brose Bamberg and Filip Stanic of Mega Bemax Belgrade.
