Vechta, who were without the injured trio of Clint Chapman, Tyrone Nash and Seth Hinrichs and played just seven players, survived committing 20 turnovers by hitting 48.5 percent from three-point range and converting 15-of-19 free throws compared to just 2-of-4 foul shots for Bamberg and also winning the rebound battle 37 to 26. Austin Hollins was sensational with 30 points including 7 three-pointers and 7 rebounds in 39:47 minutes for Vechta. The 19-year-old Philipp Herkenhoff collected career highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double, while Max DiLeo had 14 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals; TJ Bray picked up 14 points, 3 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals; Robin Christen added 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal; and Josh Young and Chris Carter combined for 9 points. Balanced Berlin bash Ulm at home without Siva

MVP Clyburn among former easyCredit BBL stars at EuroLeague Final Four

No team from the easyCredit BBL was at the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four, but the German league was well represented by former star players in the league, including Will Clyburn who won the MVP award for champions CSKA Moscow. Clyburn played two seasons with ratiopharm ulm and was one of eight players with past experience in Germany. Joining Clyburn on winners CSKA were Kyle Hines, who won his fourth EuroLeague crown since his one season at Brose Bamberg; and Daniel Hackett, who also had one season in Bamberg. Bamberg was also the home for three seasons to German big man Tibor Pleiss, who lost in the final to CSKA with Anadolu Efes Istanbul. Pleiss, who has been out of the easyCredit BBL since 2012 after three seasons with Bamberg, was teammates at Efes with Vasilije Micic, who played two seasons with FC Bayern Munich. Third-place winners Real Madrid’s roster included Fabien Causeur and Klemen Prepelic, who spent one season in the German league with Bamberg and EWE Baskets Oldenburg, respectively. And the other player with German experience was Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul’s Nicolo Melli, who spent two campaigns with Bamberg.

Eatherton’s efficiency average of 22.6 earned him the mark as top international player.
