The week also saw Telekom Baskets Bonn beat MLP Academics Heidelberg in the battle of Iisalo brother coaches. And Till Pape stepped up for BG Göttingen.

Bamberg finally win first game, Rostock drop second straight

Brose Bamberg finally captured their first victory of the season as they knocked off ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES 97-86 on the road - the promoted side’s second straight loss. Bamberg built a 14-point advantage early in the second quarter but lost the lead and trailed in the third quarter. The guests put together a key 10-2 run in the fourth quarter to move to 1-5 and drop Rostock to 4-2. Bamberg committed only 8 turnovers with 24 assists and shot 62.5 percent on two-pointers while out-rebounding Rostock 35-25 for a 15-6 advantage in second chance points. Solomon Young led Bamberg with 20 points and 7 rebounds while Kevin Wohlrath scored a career high 17 points with 7 rebounds and Amir Bell picked up 9 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Tyler Nelson paced Rostock with 19 points and Derrick Alston scored 17 points. 

Bamberg bring in Patrick Miller as Wright-Foreman replacement 

Brose Bamberg found a replacement for the recently departed Justin Wright-Foreman as they signed Patrick Miller until the end of the season. The 30-year-old playmaker knows the easyCredit BBL from playing with ratiopharm ulm in 2018-19 and he helped Israeli club Ironi New Ziona to the FIBA Europe Cup title in 2020-21 as he led the competition in scoring and assists.

Balanced Bonn beat down Heidelberg in Iisalo brothers battle 

Telekom Baskets Bonn remained perfect in the easyCredit BBL as they used a balanced attack to breeze past MLP Academics Heidelberg 98-65 at home in the battle of the Iisalo brothers. Tuomas Iisalo’s Bonn jumped ahead by 17 points after 10 minutes and never looked back to move to 5-0 while younger brother Joonas Iisalo’s Heidelberg fell to 2-3. Bonn shot 60.3 percent from the field including 67.5 percent on two-pointers while holding Heidelberg to just 32.8 percent in the game. Jeremy Morgan scored 16 points to lead Bonn while TJ Shorts had 11 points and 11 assists and Leon Kratzer picked up 10 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Washington was the only Heidelberg player in double figures with 18 points. 

Ludwigsburg never trail in home win over Hamburg

MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg extended their winning streak to three games as they never trailed in a 103-92 home victory over Veolia Hamburg Towers. Hamburg were behind the whole game including by 16 points at halftime and early in the fourth quarter. The guests ran off 10 straight points and eventually got within four points but Prentiss Hubb drained a dagger three-pointer as Ludwigsburg moved to 5-1 and Hamburg fell to 4-2. Ludwigsburg committed only 10 turnovers and made 24-of-26 free throws compared to 22-of-34 for Hamburg. Hubb led Ludwigsburg with 26 points and 13 assists while Jhonathan Dunn scored 16 points and Jeff Roberson tallied 14 points. Ziga Samar came off the Hamburg bench for 18 points and 6 assists and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann added 14 points and 8 rebounds against his former team. 

Oldenburg finish strong in road victory over Frankfurt

EWE Baskets Oldenburg kept pace with the top teams of the league as they grabbed a 77-70 victory at FRAPORT SKYLINERS. Oldenburg gained control of the game in the third quarter with a 16-point advantage, which they lost and trailed in the fourth quarter. Oldenburg allowed just two points in the final 4 minutes for a 4-2 record and Frankfurt fell to 1-5. Oldenburg held Frankfurt to just 39.1 percent from the floor and the hosts made just 8-of-14 free throws. DeWayne Russell poured in 18 points with 6 assists as Oldenburg’s main weapon while Owen Klassen tallied 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks and Tanner Leissner picked up 12 points and 10 rebounds. Laurynas Beliauskas paced Frankfurt with 16 points while JJ Frazier scored 14 points and Joshua Obiesie chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. 

Third quarter carries Bayern past Bayreuth

FC Bayern Munich used a big third quarter defensive effort to get past medi bayreurth 81-68 and remain on the heels of the league’s two undefeated teams. The game was tight and Bayreuth actually led 36-34 at halftime, but Bayern scored 15 straight points to take the third quarter 28-6 and blow the game open. Bayern’s second win in a row moved them to 5-1 and Bayreuth are 2-4 after two consecutive losses. Bayern held Bayreuth to just 41.8 percent from the field including 28.0 percent from long range. Cassius Winston paced Bayern with 19 points off the bench while Freddie Gillespie collected 10 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks and Paul Zipser scored 10 points. Brandon Childress had a big game for Bayreuth with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists and Jackson Rowe added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. 

Bayreuth add guard reinforcements with West signing

medi bayreuth reinforced their backcourt with the signing of Jarrod West until December 31, 2022. The 23-year-old West last played in China in this his first season as a professional.

Pape shines for Göttingen in home win over Würzburg

BG Göttingen snapped a two-game losing streak as they knocked off Würzburg Baskets 82-74 at home. Göttingen built an 11-point lead early in the second quarter but trailed by eight points in the third quarter. The hosts rebounded and led the entire final frame to improve to 3-2 with their first home win while Würzburg are now 2-4. Göttingen drained 13 three-pointers compared to 3 for Würzburg, who also made just 13-of-24 free throws. Till Pape totalled 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists and Javon Bess picked up 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Cameron Hunt paced Würzburg with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Stanley Whittaker added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Würzburg did see Nicolas Carvacho return to the court for 4 points and 6 rebounds after having played just one game since arriving in the summer of 2021.

Chemnitz use three-pointers to beat Ulm in OT

NINERS Chemnitz collected their second straight victory as they knocked off ratiopharm ulm 99-93 in overtime. Ulm led by 13 points in the first quarter and were ahead for most of the game before losing a 7 point lead with under 5 minutes left. In the extra session, new signee Wes Clark and Mindaugas Susinskas nailed three-pointers to grab the momentum. Chemnitz improved to 2-2 while Ulm dropped to 1-5 after winning their first game last week. Ulm committed 18 turnovers and the guests nailed a season high 18 three-pointers but also scored 40 points in the paint compared to 28 for Ulm. Jonas Richter collected 17 points and 13 rebounds while Clark had 17 points and 9 assists and Arnas Velicka picked up 14 points and 8 assists. Yago dos Santos led Ulm with 20 points and 3 assists while Thomas Klepeisz scored 19 points and Karim Jallow added 14 points and 12 rebounds. 

Chemnitz strengthen backcourt with returnee Wes Clark

NINERS Chemnitz reached out to a former guard to strengthen their backcourt as they signed Wes Clark until the end of the season. The spot in Chemnitz guard rotation was available when Shonn Miller left for MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg. The 27-year-old Clark played for Chemnitz in 2020-21. 

Ulm, Mobley part ways

ratiopharm ulm and Matt Mobley have decided to part ways after the guard did not give the team the production they had hoped for. Mobley, who was the second-leading scorer in the league in 2020-21 with FRAPORT SKYLINERS, averaged only 8.8 points on 33.3 percent shooting.

Crailsheim fend off SYNTAINICS MBC in offensive shootout

HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim and SYNTAINICS MBC put on an offensive spectacle with Crailsheim winning at home 119-102. Crailsheim raced away with a 14 point lead after 10 minutes and led by as many as 26 points. The guests trimmed the margin to five points in the fourth quarter but Crailsheim jumped to 2-4 and SYNTAINICS MBC lost their third straight for a 1-4 mark. Both offenses were fire-hot and while SYNTAINICS MBC shot 71.8 on two-pointers, Crailsheim made 16 three-pointers to 10 for the guests and converted 29-of-33 free throws to 16-of-20. Crailsheim also committed only 7 turnovers. Jaren Lewis finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for Crailsheim with Edon Maxhuni scoring 22 points and Otis Livingstone pitching in 21 points. Kris Clyburn poured in 21 points, Tremmell Darden scored 20 and Kostja Mushidi had 19 points in the loss. 

Lamont Jones, SYNTAINICS MBC decide to go different directions 

SYNTAINICS MBC have made a change in their backcourt as the club agreed with Lamont Jones to part ways. The 32-year-old American playmaker  averaged 20.0 points per game this season. 

Braunschweig hosting Berlin on December 6 

There were eight of nine games in Round 6 this week with Basketball Löwen Braunschweig hosting ALBA BERLIN on December 6.

Player of the Week

Player of the Week honors this round go to Jaren Lewis for his outstanding performance for HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim against SYNTAINICS. Lewis scored 32 points on 10-of-15 shots and 10-of-10 free throws to go with 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal for an efficiency of 42. 

German Top Five of the Week

G: Kostja Mushidi, SYNTAINICS MBC

Mushidi drained 3 three-pointers in scoring 19 points and dished out 2 assists against HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim.

F: Karim Jallow, ratiopharm ulm

Jallow had one of the best games of his career with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists against NINERS Chemnitz. 

F: Kevin Wohlrath, Brose Bamberg

Wohlrath scored a career high 17 points to go with 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in a career high 30:06 minutes against ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES.

F: Jonas Richter, NINERS Chemnitz

Richter makes this list again as he picked up 17 points, 13 rebounds and 1 assist against ratiopharm ulm.

F: Till Pape, BG Göttingen

It was hard not taking Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann and his 14 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist for Veolia Hamburg Towers versus his former team MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg but Pape knocked down 4 three-pointers in scoring 22 points and also had 3 rebounds and 3 assists against Würzburg Baskets. 

Young Guns 

Bruno Vrcic, 21, SG, HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim

Vrcic scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shots (3/7 threes) and 1-of-2 free throws and also had 1 rebound and 2 assists in 24:45 minutes against Würzburg Baskets. 

Jordan Samare, 20, PF, FRAPORT SKYLINERS

Samare broke out in his 12th game in the easyCredit BBL as the 20-year-old big man drained 3 three-pointers in scoring a career high of 10 points on 3-of-5 shots (3/3 threes) and 1-of-2 free throws to go with 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in a career high 25:07 minutes against EWE Baskets Oldenburg.

Nat Diallo, 22, C, medi bayreuth

Diallo scored a career high 12 points on 6-of-8 shots and had 3 rebounds and 1 steal in 11:58 minutes against FC Bayern Munich.

Germans Abroad

Oscar da Silva raised some eyebrows this off-season when he decided to leave ALBA BERLIN for FC Barcelona, but the 22-year-old big man had his best game this season in Spain against Girona as he poured in 16 points with 3 three-pointers and grabbed 14 rebounds.
