ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES finished their debut season in the easyCredit BBL on a high note with a 92-87 overtime victory at home against MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg, who will go into the playoffs as the No. 5 seed. Rostock lost a 13-point lead but won the game in OT as JeQuan Lewis scored 21 points to lead the way. Rostock ended the season with a 16-18 record in ninth place. Ludwigsburg fell to 19-15 despite Jhonathan Dunn scoring 27 points. Ludwigsburg will face EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the post-season.
Game summary: Jhonathan Dunn started hot and scored 7 points as Ludwigsburg led 12-9. The guests’ offense dried up and failed to score the final 3 minutes of the first quarter and Rostock led 14-12 after 10 minutes. Ludwigsburg got two scores to even the game at 16-16, but JeQuan Lewis drained two three-pointers in a 15-2 Rostock run to lead 31-18. At the other end, Dunn turned up his video game level with 4 triples within 3 minutes to get Ludwigsburg within 39-38. And the score was 42-38 at the break.
Rostock knocked down two three-pointers and managed to stay ahead 48-43 and it was 53-48. Prentiss Hubb, Jacob Patrick and Will Cherry all hit from deep and Ludwigsburg were ahead 57-54. And the guests led 65-59 after 30 minutes. Lewis helped trim the gap to 67-66 early in the final frame only to see Ludwigsburg pick up the next seven points and lead 74-66. Nijal Pearson buried two three-pointers to push Rostock ahead 75-74. After Yorman Polas Bartolo split two free throws, both teams had defensive lapses to allow easy baskets and Shonn Miller’s layup with 10.6 seconds left forced overtime at 79-79. After Rostock scored on three straight possessions to move ahead 85-81, Ludwigsburg twice trimmed the gap to one point. Selom Mawugbe countered with a score and Derrick Alston iced the game with a tip-in for a 91-86 lead with 22 seconds to play.

Numbers please: Ludwigburg shot just 37.5 percent for the game including only 39.0 percent on two-pointers, not to mention hitting only 13-of-20 free throws for 65.0 percent. Rostock blocked 7 Ludwigsburg shots.
Player of the game: JeQuan Lewis struggled shooting the ball - hitting 7-of-18 shots - but he scored 21 points for Rostock. The guard also played all 45:00 minutes of the game, adding 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 fouls drawn.
The Germans: Sid-Marlon Theis contributed 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks and Till Gloger chipped in 4 points and 2 rebounds off the bench for Rostock. Eddy Edigin collected 5 points and 12 rebounds, Jakob Patrick tallied 8 points and 2 steals for Ludwigsburg and Yorman Polas Bartolo added 6 points and 6 rebounds.

Also newsworthy Part I: Rostock's Selom Mawugbe was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year and he showed that part of his game with 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 blocks. But the center scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting and 4-of-7 free throws, which was just one point off his season high in points.
Also newsworthy Part II: Ludwigsburg's Jhonathan Dunn was unstoppable in the first half with 22 points but he finished the game with 27 points - picking up just 5 points in the final 25 minutes of play.
What’s up next: Ludwigsburg will now prepare for their first round playoff series against EWE Baskets Oldenburg as the No. 5 seed. Rostock for their part can go into the summer thrilled with their maiden season in the easyCredit BBL - staying alive for the playoffs until Round 33.
