Baldwin game-winner breaks Bayreuth’s six-player rotation’s heart in OT
Coming into the weekend, not many people would have picked BG Göttingen at home versus medi bayreuth to provide the most drama of Round 25, but Göttingen absolutely broke Bayreuth’s hearts with a 92-91 overtime win thanks to Kamar Baldwin’s game-winner with 0.4 seconds left. After playing the previous two games with just eight players, Bayreuth head coach Raoul Korner had just six players for the game in Göttingen - none taller than 1.98 meters. The hosts raced away to an 18-point lead in the first quarter and the advantage was 22 points midway through the second quarter. Bayreuth fought back into the game and went ahead late in the third frame. It went back and forth in the fourth quarter with Bayreuth scoring the final four points of regulation including Sacar Anim’s long jumper at the buzzer to force overtime - which was only two points as he had his foot on the three-point line. Neither team led by more than two points in the extra session with Cameron Wells giving the guests the lead 91-90 with 21 seconds to play before Baldwin’s game winner. Göttingen remained on course for the playoffs with a 14-8 record after a third straight win while Bayreuth have lost three in a row and are 11-13. Göttingen took the rebound battle 52-39, including 19 offensive rebounds, and shot 62.5 percent on two-pointers to compensate for hitting just 20.6 percent from long range. Baldwin finished with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists while Jeff Roberson collected 15 points and 12 rebounds, Harald Frey scored 11 points and Jake Toolson and Philipp Hartwich both had 10 points.
